About the Government of India

India’s Government is the central executive authority for the Republic of India, which is composed of 28 states and eight union territories. The Indian Government is officially known as the Union Government or Union of India, but is colloquially known as the Central Government.

A prime minister (currently Narendra Modi since 26 May 2014) leads the government and selects all other ministers. Since 2014, the country has been ruled by the NDA-led government (a coalition of the BJP and its allies). The cabinet is the executive decision-making committee of the Union Council of Ministers, whose prime minister and senior ministers belong there.

New Delhi has three primary branches of government, namely the legislative, the executive, and the judiciary, whose powers are held by a bicameral Parliament, a prime minister, and the Supreme Court, respectively.

The Council of Ministers is responsible to the House in which they sit, they make statements in that House and take questions from fellow members of that House. Unlike the Rajya Sabha (mostly indirectly), senior ministers elect the Lok Sabha directly. Parliament is a legislative body, and it is elected every five years. The latest election took place in 2024.

About the Aadhar UIDAI Internship

Founded by the Government of India, the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has been established under the provisions of the Aadhaar Act, 2016 (“Aadhaar Act 2016”) on 12 July 2016, under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology. As of 25.07.2019, the Aadhaar and Other Laws (Amendment) Act, 2019 (14 of 2019) has amended the Aadhaar Act, 2016.

UIDAI issued Unique Identification Numbers (UIDs), commonly known as “Aadhaars”, to all Indian citizens. According to UIDAI, 131.68 crore Aadhaar numbers were issued to Indian citizens as of 31st March 2022. They had to be robust enough to eliminate duplicates and fakes, as well as verifiable and authenticable in a cost-effective manner.

Aadhaar enrolment and authentication are the responsibility of UIDAI under the Aadhaar Act 2016. This includes managing and operating all aspects of the Aadhaar life cycle, developing a policy, procedure, and system for issuing Aadhaar numbers to individuals, and ensuring the security of identity information and authentication records.

A UIDAI internship will provide the “Interns” with valuable exposure to the workings of the UIDAI and the technologies applied to further their career prospects in niche technology, legal domains, management, and many other areas.

The objective of Aadhaar UIDAI Internship
